Testing my Wings

Yesterday after days and days of feeling restless and frustrated by the never ending monotony of my life, I decided to make a change. A drastic change. I started looking at ads on KSL and Craigs List for apartments. I sorted through dozens of ads looking for the features I desired. I found one that sounded really promising. I called and it had already been taken. I almost gave up, but then I came back to an ad that had a quirky appeal to it. What was that? They mentioned chickens, yes chickens. This house has a chicken coup in the back yard. Fresh eggs are an added amenity to this apartment. Interesting. I called the contact person and left a voice message. Later I got a call back and we arranged for me to see the place.

And so last night I drove downtown after work to get a peek. I fell in love with it right away. It has a spiral staircase to get to it. LOVE it. Thankfully there is a second stairwell in the back. I was a bit curious to see how I was going to get furniture up such a tiny stairway. There were two rooms up for rent, one lavender and one blue. I chose the lavender for design purposes. Color wise, I prefer the blue, but color can be changed according to my lovely tour guide Sara. I knew it was a good deal and I had a very good feeling about it. And so, I declared I would take it! I signed my contract and I move in around November 1st. I cannot wait to experience life on my own!

Here are a few pics of the place. The furniture is a bit different and obviously the bedroom furniture will change to mine, but you get the idea of what it looks like. One unique thing is the layout. The living room is in the front then you walk down a long hallway past all the bedrooms to get to the kitchen. I'm a fan.

Remembering Design

Two blog posts in one day seems a bit excessive...but I wanted to share. My mother has endured a tiny dysfunctional kitchen for 23 years. Someday, I hope soon, she would like to remodel it to her specifications. She described to me what she'd like to do. Today I dusted off my perspective drawing skills to bring her ideas to life. What do you think? Keep in mind, this is a preliminary sketch.

Below is how it looks right now.

Driving Toward the Sunrise

One of the blessings of living on the West side of the valley is driving East to get to work in the wee small hours of the morning when the sun is making its entrance. I have seen many a grand array of colors, shapes and light. This morning was no exception. I wish I had a picture. It was breathtaking. I love the blessing of being in a world surrounded by natural beauty. Sometimes I think we get so caught up in our busy day to day events that we forget to slow down and take in the sunrise. It is the best way to start my day.
